The representative teams of Newcastle Basketball are called the Hunters. The Hunters represent Newcastle in both senior and junior statewide competitions. Newcastle Basketball has a long and very proud tradition in both senior and junior representative basketball. Between 1962 and 1973 Newcastle won 11 Open NSW Titles. In 1986, the Newcastle Park Royal Hunters became the first NSW team to win a CBA (Continental Basketball Associaiton) title, and were also rewarded in that year by being named Basketball NSW Team of the Year. 1990 was definitely a golden year for the Association, with 5 Newcastle Junior Representative Teams taking out NSW State Junior Titles (Under 12, 14, 16 and 18 Men and Under 14 Women). The Under 14 Men were the most successful team during that year claiming Country and State titles as well as winning the Australian Under 14 Men's Club Championship.

Newcastle Hunters also compete in the NSW State Youth League Men's and Women's Competitions (U/22). Newcastle was runner-up in Youth League Men in 2001, 2000 and were Champions in 2003 and 1999.

JUNIOR HUNTERS - The Newcastle Hunters

Newcastle Junior Hunters compete in the NSW Central Junior League and NSW State Championships. The Newcastle Hunters field teams in age groups from Under 12 Girls and Boys through to Under 18 Men and Women. The Junior Representative season runs from early February (final representative trials) until early September when State Championships are played. The Central Junior League is played on a home and away basis with teams representing Newcastle, Maitland, Lake Macquarie, Gosford City, The Entrance and Central Coast Basketball Associations. Newcastle has a very impressive record in Central Junior League, NSW Country and NSW State Championships. Since 1989, Newcastle has won 36 Junior NSW Country Titles. Since 1983, Newcastle has won 23 Junior State Titles and in 1990 won an unprecedented 5 Titles. Newcastle has also been runner up 33 times in this period.
