Newcastle Basketball

Steel Academy

The Steel Basketball Academy (SBA) was formed in 2002.  Since its inception, over 360 young athletes have benefited from the SBA, many of whom have also represented Newcastle in the Hunters program.

The Steel Academy has also helped over 20 athletes realise their goal of representing NSW.

In 2010, Newcastle Basketball will continue the tradition of giving young aspiring players great opportunities to improve their skill level and enjoyment of Basketball.

The broad goals of the Steel Academy are to:

1.       Improve the individual skill level of players in our club competition.

2.       Assist enthusiastic players in their quest for Hunters selection.

3.       Drive the development of the Hunters program from below, by creating greater depth of skill across the junior club competition.

Newcastle Hunters representative players are eligible for the Steel Academy, however the program focus is towards non-representative players from our junior club competition.

The 2009 Steel Academy is currently underway.

The 2010 Steel Academy will commence in September, with information and applications available released in July 2010.
