The Steel Basketball Academy (SBA) was formed in 2002. Since its inception, over 370 young athletes have benefited from the SBA, many of whom have also represented Newcastle in the Hunters program.
The Steel Academy has also helped over 20 athletes realise their goal of representing NSW.
In 2011, Newcastle Basketball will continue the tradition of giving young aspiring players exciting opportunities to improve their skill level and enjoyment of Basketball.
The broad goals of the Steel Academy are to:
1. Improve the individual skill level of players in our club competition.
2. Assist enthusiastic players in their quest for Hunters selection.
3. Drive the development of the Hunters program, by creating greater depth of skill across the junior club competition.
4. Give players a chance to experience tournament play.
The SBA also provides aspiring coaches to work closely with some of the Newcastle Hunters’ representative coaches. If you are interested in becoming a Steel Academy coach, please contact Newcastle Basketball.

2011 Steel Academy Information
This year's Steel Academy will participate in the 2011 Seaside Classic held in Port Macqurie from November 5-6 at the Port Macquarie Sports Stadium.
Training
Training dates are listed below. Please note that all sessions will run from 4:15pm-5:45pm unless otherwise stated.
U11 & U13:
September 5, 12, 19, 28; October 5, 10, 17, 24, 31
*September 28 and October 5 will be held from 9:00am - 12:00pm
U15
September 6, 13, 20, 28; October 5, 11, 18, 25; November 1
*September 28 and October 5 will be held from 1:00pm - 4:00pm
