Newcastle Hunters guard Cassidy McLean suffered a knee injury late in the first quarter of the team’s Waratah Basketball League game against Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium last Saturday night.

Follow-up scans on Tuesday confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in Cassidy’s right knee and she will be sidelined indefinitely.

Cassidy, who had returned to Newcastle for the Waratah League season after playing for Bendigo Spirit in the recently completed Women’s National Basketball League, has begun physiotherapy as part of the rehabilitation process and in preparation for the likelihood of surgery.

Though Cassidy is devastated by this outcome and is still coming to terms with it, she remains positive and confident of making a full recovery and continuing her career at the appropriate time.

Cassidy would like to thank her family and friends for their love and support, and to her extended Newcastle Basketball family and other well-wishers who have expressed their concerns.
