FUTURE IN GOOD HANDS

NEWCASTLE Basketball is excited to announce Tim Mallon will be our new Coaching Director, starting next week.

Sam Adams will start next month in a new role as Development Officer.

Tim (pictured left) is replacing Shannon Seebohm, who is continuing his career as head coach of WNBL club Townsville Fire. A familiar figure in the Newcastle and Hunter basketball community, Tim is one of the most highly regarded and respected coaches at all levels of Australian basketball.

“It’s great to be involved with Newcastle Basketball as there are some really good things happening in the place,” Tim said.

“Having Shannon here was fantastic and it’s great that he’s got an opportunity at national league level again.

“There is a lot of momentum and we just want to keep that moving in the right direction.

“Sam comes highly recommended and he seems like a great guy and I’m looking forward to working with him too.”

Sam, a former NSW junior representative player from Queanbeyan, coached the Canberra Gunners Academy team to victory in the Waratah League Division One men’s championship this season.

He coached ACT at the Australian Under-20 national men’s championships earlier this year, has worked with NSW Country junior teams, and has coached teams in the ACT and Queanbeyan representative programs for the past five years.

Newcastle Basketball General Manager Neil Goffet was excited at the prospect of having Tim and Sam continue the work Shannon has done in the past two years.

“Timmy is a great person and his knowledge of basketball is among the best in the world,” Neil said.

“He will bring a lot to our association and we are extremely grateful that he is about to give up a lot of spare time to continue the great work done by his predecessor, Shannon Seebohm.”
