Newcastle Basketball Junior Summer Competition
UPCOMING JUNIOR SUMMER COMPETITION 2026/27
Welcome back to Newcastle Basketball’s Junior Summer Competition! Whether you’re looking to have some fun with your friends or want a challenge in our top divisions – Summer Comp has it all. Please take a look at our key dates and information below so you don’t miss out.
Unlike 2025/26, there will be no Premier Division this year – all players/teams are welcome to nominate in Division 1. All Representative & Academy Players are required to join teams nominating for Division 1 & Division 2 (see further details below).
Team Registrations Open: 17th August, 9:00am
How does this work? In Summer Comp, teams are formed independently of Newcastle Basketball and then registered by a nominated parent or ‘Team Admin’. Once a team is registered, the Team Admin will supply a link to the rest of the parents to register and ‘join the team’. In cases in which a player does not have a team, parents can place their child on a waitlist for other teams to draw upon to fill their roster. A link to register your team will be made available here when registrations open.

**The U13 age group falls between two BNSW registration age groups, and the Basketball Connect registration is unable to account for this to fairly distribute team allocations. Like all other registrations, available positions in the competition will be given to the teams who complete the form first.
Team Registrations Close: 4th, September 9:00am
Players to be registered to teams by: 11th September
*At least 7 players must be registered to every team by the deadline. Newcastle Basketball can either remove your team from the competition or draw upon the waitlist to fill your roster if this is not completed.
Individual Registration Fee: $300
Competition Dates:
MONDAY NIGHTS: U11G (All Divisions)
- Round 1: October 12
- Semi Finals: March 30
- Grand Finals: April 5
TUESDAY NIGHTS: U17G (All Divisions)
- Round 1: October 13
- No Game (Public Holiday): Tuesday 26th January
- Semi Finals: March 30
- Grand Finals: April 6
WEDNESDAY NIGHTS: U11B & U17B (All Divisions) + U13B, U13G, U15B, U15G (Div 1 & 2)
- Round 1: October 14
- Semi Finals: March 31
- Grand Finals: April 7
FRIDAY NIGHTS: U13B, U13G, U15B, U15G (Div 3 & Below)
- Round 1: October 16
- Semi Finals: April 2
- Grand Finals: April 9
Games will not be played during the Summer Holidays – 14th December until 28th January.
Age groups:
- U11s – 2016 and younger
- U13s – 2014 & 2015
- U15s – 2012 & 2013
- U17s – 2010 & 2011
Uniform: Teams must play in uniform. Teams must wear matching singlets with numbers.
If your singlets are not reversible, and you play against a team with the same colour, both teams will be required to pay a fee to hire bibs from the front office. By the end of Round 3, Teams that have not organised their uniform (or are not meeting uniform requirements) will be deducted 3 competition points for each game played not in the correct uniform.
Coaches: All coaches are required to have a basic understanding of the game.
By the end of Round 3, all teams are required to have both a Coach and Manager allocated to the team. If they are not listed on the team after Round 3, 3 competition points will be deducted for each game where team staff are not identified. Both Coach and Manager are required to have a WWCC.
Game Timings:
– 4 x 10-minute quarters
– Running clock
– No overtime – Final result will stand for all minor round matches
Representative Player Restrictions
All Representative Players & Academy Players are required to join teams nominating for Division 1 & Division 2.
The following player limits are in place:
Division Representative & Academy Player Limit
Division 1 Maximum of 6 current (2026) representative or academy players per team, including a maximum of 2 state players.
Division 2 Maximum of 2 current (2026) representative or academy players per team.
*External representative players are included in these player limits
This player limit aims to achieve the following:
- Promote adequate team numbers & a competitive landscape in Division 1
- Allow Representative & Academy players to enjoy the social aspect of Summer Comp
NOTE: ALL TEAMS WILL BE SUBJECT TO GRADING – teams with representative/academy players must nominate for Div1&2, but may be moved up or down depending on their initial grading / early season performance.
