Falcons Re-Sign Meg Jefferson for 2026

The Newcastle Falcons are proud to announce the re-signing of Meg Jefferson for the 2026 NBL1 East season. The 6’3” forward returns for her second season in red and blue after a standout debut campaign with the Falcons, where she quickly established herself as a key contributor on both ends of the floor.

Jefferson boasts an impressive basketball résumé. A Penrith Junior, Jefferson began her representative career with NSW Metro, competing at national championships from Under 16 through to Under 20. Following high school, she earned a scholarship to the University of Virginia (UVA), competing in the NCAA’s Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). During her time at UVA, Jefferson was awarded the prestigious Thomas Jefferson Award, recognising her dedication, leadership, and sportsmanship.

After three seasons at UVA, Jefferson continued her collegiate career at the University of Hawai‘i before returning home to Australia to attend the University of Sydney. There, she represented USYD in the University Basketball League while completing a Master’s degree in Sustainability.

In 2023 Jefferson started her NBL1 East career with the Penrith Panthers before transferring to the Hills Hornets for the 2024 season.

Jefferson’s on-court performance earned her a rostered spot in the WNBL with the UC Capitals for the 2024/25 season where she played alongside Falcons players Nicole Munger and Claudea Waihape-Andrews.

In the 2025 NBL1 East season, Jefferson averaged 16.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game, playing a pivotal role in the Falcons’ outstanding 17–3 regular season.

Falcons Women’s Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt is thrilled to welcome Jefferson back for another campaign.

“Meg was an instrumental part of our incredible 17–3 regular season last year, bringing not only her skill but her exceptional basketball IQ to every game,” Schmidt said.

“This season, I’ll be leaning on her even more to step into a leadership role and help mentor some of our younger players coming through the ranks.

“Beyond her on-court ability, Meg brings heart and soul to our team culture. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more compassionate, genuine, and downright hilarious person. Her pre-game WhatsApp messages alone have the entire team in stitches.”

“We’re so lucky to have her as part of the Falcon family again — and I’m expecting big things from her this season.”

Jefferson shared her excitement about returning to Newcastle.

“I’m excited to be re-signing with the Newcastle Falcons,” Jefferson said.

“This club feels like home, and I’m grateful for the trust my coaches and teammates have shown in me. I’m looking forward to building on what we achieved last season and doing everything I can to help the flock fly high.”

Fans can catch Meg and the Falcons in action at the 2026 season home opener on Saturday, 28 March, when Newcastle hosts the Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
