Falcons Re-Sign Brennan for 2026

Falcons Re-Sign Brennan for 2026

The Newcastle Falcons are pleased to announce the return of Sophie Brennan for her third season with the club ahead of the 2026 NBL1 East campaign.

A key member of the Falcons backcourt, Brennan continues to develop into one of the league’s emerging point guards. Despite being one of the youngest players in the position across the competition, her composure, competitiveness, and leadership qualities continue to stand out.

Falcons Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt said Brennan’s role will be critical for the team this season. “Sophie returns for her third season with the Newcastle Falcons, and over the years she has continued to elevate her game. She will be instrumental for us in the point guard position. One of the youngest point guards in the league, Sophie’s dogged determination and composure extend well beyond her years.

This season, I’ll be looking to Sophie to steer the ship, working closely with her captains, Kate and Nicole, to control the tempo of the game. Sophie is an exceptionally talented young player and athlete, and I’m expecting a lot of growth from her this season.

Sophie’s fun-loving nature, combined with her fierce competitiveness, adds enormously to our team dynamic. I’m excited to watch her continue to strive for even greater success this year.”

Brennan said she is eager to build on her previous seasons and continue growing within the Falcons program. “I’m super excited to come back for another season with the Newcastle Falcons. I’m really grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get back on court with this group, learn from our leaders, and continue to grow my game this season.”

The Falcons look forward to seeing Brennan take another step forward in 2026 as the team prepares for an exciting NBL1 East season.

Fans can catch the Falcons in action at the 2026 season home opener on Saturday, 28 March, when Newcastle hosts the Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
