Hunter Indoor Sports Centre Project

The Centre will feature multi-purpose indoor courts, allied health suites, a gym and movement studio, café and social spaces, versatile function rooms, accessible change rooms, spectator seating, and ample car parking. The design sets out to create a vibrant, welcoming hub for people of all ages and abilities – a place where community, wellbeing, and sport will thrive. The HISC is needed to replace and expand the capacity of the current stadium which has to be relocated to facilitate implementation of the Broadmeadow Place Strategy.

A State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for HISC was put on exhibition from mid October to mid November 2024 and our project team addressed issues raised through a ‘response to submissions’. As a result, planning and design information was updated and the project was re-exhibited from Thursday 21 August until Wednesday 17 September.

A big thank you to all our Members who made positive submissions in support of the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) for the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre. In the latest re-exhibition period, the project received 1,273 submissions of which the vast majority were supportive (877 or 69% of all submissions).
What’s next?
Our project team is now preparing a formal Response to Submissions. After that, the application will be referred to the Independent Planning Commission for further consideration and, ultimately, a decision. We expect a final determination by early 2026.
