The Newcastle Falcons are pleased to announce the re-signing of local talent Myles Cherry for the 2025 NBL1 East season.
Since returning from Lafayette University, the 26-year-old hometown favourite has been an integral part of the Falcons men’s program over the past three seasons.
Across the 2024 season, he consistently produced solid performances, averaging 15.2 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game while shooting an efficient 54% from the field.
Head Coach Josh Morgan expressed his enthusiasm about the re-signing, highlighting the importance of Cherry’s all-round contributions to the team.
“We are excited to have Myles signed on for this coming season,” Morgan said.
“Myles is a great team and Club man. He is our defensive pillar and is very smart with and without the ball. He also does numerous things throughout games that are un-statted like setting good screens and controlling rebounding contests.”
“Myles is still keen to improve individually and implementing this growth into our team. We look forward to working closely with him to help him achieve individual and team success.”
Cherry is looking forward to another season with the Falcons and emphasised the importance of the connection to his hometown.
“I’m thrilled to be back to don the red, white and blue for the 2025 season,” Cherry said.
“Newcastle will always be home, and I consider it a great privilege to represent the area.”
As the Falcons aim to return to the Finals in 2025, Cherry will play a crucial role in steering the team alongside his returning teammates. He shared his optimism about the upcoming season and the roster’s potential.
“We have put together a strong group of returners, with the hope to add a few other pieces that will bolster our squad.”
“This year’s team will be a highly competitive group with both veteran and youthful talent, spearheaded by Josh Morgan at the helm.”
“I’m looking forward to seeing what this year brings and for another go-around with the Falcons.”
Myles joins returning Falcons Ryan Beisty and Leo O’Boyle, who are also signed for the 2025 NBL1 East season. Catch the Falcons in action against the Sydney Comets at their home opener on Saturday, 29 March.
