Newcastle Basketball is pleased to announce the appointment of Sara Jiear as General Manager, following her successful term as Interim General Manager over the past three months.
Since joining Newcastle Basketball in August 2024 as Competitions & Operations Manager, Sara has demonstrated strong leadership, operational expertise, and an unwavering commitment to the growth of basketball across Newcastle and Lake Macquarie.
Sara has been actively involved in the Newcastle Basketball community for several years. In this time, she has developed a strong understanding of grassroots sport and a genuine passion for fostering participation, giving her a valuable perspective on the role basketball plays within the wider community.
“The Board of Directors congratulates Sara on her appointment and looks forward to continuing to work alongside her to build on the association’s success, delivering positive experiences for members, and securing a sustainable future for basketball in the Hunter region,” Board Chair Jaclyn Mottram said.
With a professional background in project management and sports coordination, Sara brings a valuable skillset to the role at a pivotal time in the organisation’s history. She will continue to support Newcastle Basketball’s advocacy for a new home at the Hunter Indoor Sports Centre, a multi-purpose venue that will benefit not only basketball but also sports such as volleyball, pickleball, futsal, and other community activities.
“I’m thankful for the opportunity to officially take on the role of General Manager after serving as Interim GM for the last few months,” Sara Jiear said.
“It’s been a privilege to work alongside such a committed team, and I am grateful for the support and trust that has been extended to me from the Board, staff, and our members.”
“I’m looking forward to continuing our work to strengthen our programs, grow participation, and make a positive impact for our community.”
