Newcastle Basketball is thrilled to announce the re-signing of reigning three-time NBL1 East MVP Nicole Munger for the 2026 season.
A cornerstone of the Newcastle Falcons women’s program, Munger has been instrumental to the club’s success over the past four seasons, delivering elite performances while making a lasting impact both on and off the court.
Munger’s dominant campaign once again reinforced her status as one of the league’s premier talents. She led the Falcons to an outstanding 17–3 regular season record, averaging 21 points, 14.4 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.3 steals per game. A versatile forward, Munger was a force at both ends of the floor, consistently setting the standard for a high-performing Newcastle lineup.
Currently competing in the WNBL with the Canberra Capitals, finishing the weekend with a strong performance of 16 points 4/6 from three-point range, and three rebounds against the Sydney Flames.
“For many seasons, Nicole has been embraced by the Newcastle Basketball community as one of our own, and this will remain unchanged in 2026,” Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt said.
“Her contribution to our organisation extends well beyond her performance on the basketball court. Her dedication, passion, and genuine care for our people, our junior athletes, and our program are invaluable.”
“While Nicole’s ability on the court is unquestionable, it is her commitment to paying it forward that truly distinguishes her and serves as an ongoing source of inspiration within our community.”
Munger said she is excited to return to Newcastle ahead of the 2026 NBL1 East season.
“Five seasons in Newcastle and it still feels just as special, if not more. This club and community truly feel like home, and I’m proud to keep helping build the culture we’ve created together.“
“I’m grateful to Sara, the Board, the Association, and our community for believing in me, and I can’t wait to play for Coach B again, compete alongside some of my best friends, and keep helping this program, and our young athletes, continue to grow.”
