Newcastle Basketball is seeking enthusiastic and community‑minded Court Supervisors to support the delivery of competitions, events and activities across our three venues: • Newcastle Basketball Stadium, Broadmeadow • Hunter Sports High School • Macquarie College
This casual role is ideal for someone who loves basketball, enjoys working with people, and thrives in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment.
The Opportunity
As a Court Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth, safe and professional operation of Newcastle Basketball competitions and events. You will:

Coordinate the organisation and execution of games across multiple courts, ensuring punctual start times and seamless transitions.

Manage court setup, equipment, scoretable resources and tablets before and during competition.

Support coaches, players, referees and scorebench staff, addressing logistical needs and ensuring a positive game‑day experience.

Act as the primary on‑site contact for coaches, referees and venue personnel, communicating clearly and professionally throughout the shift.

Resolve disputes and on‑court issues, enforcing rules and promoting a respectful, inclusive environment.

Maintain a safe and tidy facility by conducting basic cleaning tasks, monitoring hazards and ensuring equipment is stored correctly.

Respond to operational challenges promptly and confidently, escalating issues where required.
This role is central to upholding the standards, culture and professionalism of Newcastle Basketball.
What You Bring
-
Demonstrated knowledge or experience in basketball officiating, coaching, or game coordination.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with children, young people and community members.

Confidence in managing conflict, enforcing rules and supporting a positive game‑day environment.

Reliability, initiative and the ability to work independently across diverse duties.

Adequate fitness and mobility to move between courts, assist with equipment and remain active throughout the shift.

Ideally, prior experience in coaching, officiating or instructing.
Qualifications
Essential
-
Working With Children Check (Paid).
-
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid or HLTAID009 Provide CPR.
Desirable
-
Basketball NSW Association Community Referee Course.

Club Coach Accreditation (formerly Level 1).

Casual position working across Newcastle Basketball Stadium, Hunter Sports High School and Macquarie College.

Shifts primarily fall between 3:30pm – 9:30pm on Wednesday and Friday nights, with additional opportunities during events, gala days and training activities.

Standing, walking, lifting and basic cleaning tasks are required.

Occasional outdoor work may be required depending on event needs.
