Newcastle Basketball are excited to welcome women’s NBL1 East Captain Kate Kingham back to the Club for the 2026 season.
A proud Newcastle junior, Kingham has been an integral member of the Falcons program across a number of seasons and played a key leadership role in the team’s NBL1 East Championship-winning campaign in 2024. Impacting the game on both ends of the floor, Kate averaged 11.35 points, 3.26 rebounds and 2.35 assists per game last season.
Falcons Women’s Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt is excited to see Kingham once again lead the group in the upcoming season.
“This marks my third season working with Kate in NBL1, and I think it’s fair to say she has become a true local hero—one who inspires the next generation of local talent to come through the ranks.”
“Kate’s ability on the court has often gone unrecognised in the past; however, over the past season, with the elevation of her game, that is no longer the case.”
“Kate has become a formidable and highly targeted player in our league, and I believe she still has even more to offer. I’m excited to see what she can produce this year.”
“Despite still being so young, Kate—alongside team management and co-captaining with Nicole Munger—has truly taken her leadership to a new level. Over the past few years, I’ve watched her develop into a different person both on and off the floor, highlighted by significant growth in her leadership ability.“
“Once again, I entrust Kate and Nicole with the responsibility of leading our group on and off the court, while assisting me in sustaining and developing a strong, united culture—not only within our team, but across our entire female program”.
Catch Kate and the Falcons in action at their 2026 season home opener on Saturday 28 March against the Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
