Falcons Re-Sign Waihape-Andrews for 2026

The Newcastle Falcons are pleased to confirm the return of Claudea Waihape-Andrews for the 2026 NBL1 East season.

Waihape-Andrews returns for her second season in red and blue after joining the Falcons in 2025, bringing with her a reputation as one of the competition’s toughest and most reliable defenders.

Following high school, Claudea competed with the Canberra Nationals Academy in the Waratah Women’s Division, where she was awarded Defensive Player of the Year in 2022. She went on to spend multiple seasons competing in NBL1 with the Canberra Nationals before making the move to Newcastle.

Falcons Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt said the Club was excited to see Claudea continue her journey in Newcastle.

“We’re excited to welcome Claudea back for her second season with the Newcastle Falcons.
Claudea is one of the hardest-working individuals you’ll find. She continues to refine her game daily and consistently puts in the work to improve. With her power and strength, she will be a force to be reckoned with and never hesitates to put her body on the line for the team.”

“Naturally competitive, Claudea is also one of the kindest teammates you’ll ever meet. She’s always willing to help and support others, both on and off the court. This season, we’ll once again be looking to Claudea to be a dominant defensive presence for us.”

Waihape-Andrews said returning to Newcastle was an easy decision.

“I’m so grateful for the experiences and lessons I learned last season with this team. There was no hesitation when Bernadette asked if I would return. What Newcastle is building on and off the court is something special, and I can’t wait to be a part of it again in 2026.”

Fans can catch the Falcons in action at the 2026 season home opener on Saturday, 28 March, when Newcastle hosts the Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
