Falcons welcome back Bond, Burns and Wilsmore for 2026

The Newcastle Falcons are pleased to announce the return of local juniors Rose Bond, Belle Burns and Lucy Wilsmore for the 2026 NBL1 East season, continuing the Club’s strong commitment to developing home-grown talent.

Rose Bond returns to the Falcons program after progressing through the Club’s junior pathway and establishing herself as one of the region’s most promising young athletes. A former Falcons junior, Bond earned selection in the NSW Country State Team and was also part of the Falcons’ NBL1 Development Player group.

Falcons Head Coach Bernadette Schmidt said Bond’s journey highlights her dedication and work ethic. “I’ve had the pleasure of coaching Rosie for a few years now, most notably during her time in the U16s with the Newcastle Falcons. One of her greatest qualities is her relentless work ethic — she will keep going and give everything she has.

Bond said she is grateful for the opportunity to represent her hometown club.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to represent the Newcastle Falcons at this level and can’t wait to compete alongside a great group of girls.”

Local junior Belle Burns will also suit up for the Falcons in 2026 after continuing to develop into an exciting up-and-coming talent. Now standing at six feet tall, Burns brings valuable height, length and athleticism to the roster.

Schmidt said Burns’ growth and coachability make her a valuable addition. “Belle is an exciting up-and-coming talent in the game. I’ve coached her for several years and have been fortunate to watch her game continue to evolve. Motivated, dedicated and driven to succeed, Belle has a strong desire to improve and is always willing to learn.”

Burns said she is looking forward to the season ahead. “I’m excited for this season with a solid, encouraging group of people both on and off the court, and I’m looking forward to putting the work in together.”

Lucy Wilsmore also returns for the 2026 season, continuing a remarkable development journey that began when she first took to the court as a junior Falcon. Known for her length, athleticism and endurance, Wilsmore has grown significantly over recent seasons.

“I’ve known Lucy and coached her for many years now,” Schmidt said. “From her first club game in the U14s to now, her growth has been incredible. She’s developed strength to go with her height and athleticism, and her potential has no boundaries.”

The return of Bond, Burns and Wilsmore reinforces the Falcons’ commitment to building from within as preparations continue for the 2026 NBL1 East season.

Fans can catch the Falcons in action at the 2026 season home opener on Saturday, 28 March, when Newcastle hosts the Norths Bears at Newcastle Basketball Stadium.
