Get Involved in Shaping the Future of Newcastle Basketball
Newcastle Basketball is calling for Expressions of Interest (EOIs) from members and community stakeholders who are passionate about contributing to the strength, inclusivity and governance of our Association.
These roles support the Board in meeting its obligations to act in the best interests of the Association and its members, and to promote transparent, accountable and values-led leadership.
Expressions of Interest are sought for the following governance and advisory roles:
Company Secretary
The Company Secretary is a key governance role that supports the Board to operate effectively and in accordance with the Constitution, Board Charter, relevant legislation and governance best practice.
Working closely with the Board Chair, Board and General Manager, the Company Secretary acts as a governance partner to the Board, with responsibilities including:
● Supporting the Board to discharge its governance, oversight and compliance responsibilities
● Coordinating the preparation, circulation and management of Board and committee papers
● Ensuring accurate minutes, records, resolutions and statutory registers are maintained
● Advising the Board on governance processes, procedural matters and good governance practice
● Assisting with constitutional, regulatory and reporting obligations
A background in law, governance or compliance and/or relevant professional certification or training (e.g. AICD certification or training) will be highly regarded.
An honorarium will be considered for appropriately qualified candidates.

Gender Equity Advisory Group
The Gender Equity Advisory Group supports Newcastle Basketball’s commitment to equitable access, participation and leadership opportunities for women and girls across all levels of the sport.
The Group will:
● Provide advice and recommendations to the Board and management
● Support policy, program and pathway development that promotes gender equity
● Contribute to a safe, inclusive and respectful basketball environment
Participation in the Gender Equity Advisory Group is undertaken on a volunteer basis. The Gender Equity Advisory Group Terms of Reference including eligibility and membership requirements can be found here.
First Nations Advisory Group
The First Nations Advisory Group has been active in supporting the Association’s commitment to respect, inclusion and meaningful engagement with First Nations peoples and communities.
The Group:
● Provides cultural guidance and advice to the Board and management
● Supports culturally safe participation and program and pathway initiatives
● Assists in strengthening relationships and community connection in a meaningful and respectful ways
To support the continued growth and sustainability of the Group, expressions of interest are now invited from:
● Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who may be interested in joining the Advisory Group as a member; and/or
● Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people who may be interested in supporting the Group’s work through specific projects, events or initiatives.
Participation in the First Nations Advisory Group is undertaken on a volunteer basis.
Nominations Committee Member – Member Elected Nominee
The Nominations Committee is a sub-committee of the Board, established to support robust governance, leadership succession and people-focused oversight. Its purpose includes assisting the Board in relation to:
● Supporting Board composition aligned to current and future strategic needs
● Overseeing Board skills mix, capability assessment, succession planning and Director nominations
● Promoting transparent, merit-based and skills-focused Board appointment processes
● Supporting senior management succession planning and performance review processes
We are seeking EOIs for the member-elected representative on the Nominations Committee, as provided for under the Constitution. This is a volunteer role. The Nominations Committee Charter including eligibility and membership requirements can be found here.
Important governance requirement:
● Suitable applicants will be required to stand for election by the membership at the May 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM).
● Appointment to this role is subject to member endorsement at the AGM, in accordance with constitutional requirements.

● Clearly outline which role/s you are applying for including how you meet any eligibility or membership requirements.
● Submit a 1–2 page written application outlining your experience, motivation and suitability for the role(s) you are applying for.
● Consider including a current resume/CV (optional but welcome)
